Apple has posted a rather long iPhone guided movie up on their website today, which answers a few more niggling questions.

Below is a list of items that have been clarified in the guided movie today:

  • The little nub above the volume control on the left hand side is a ring muter. Very nicely thought out.
  • The sleep/wake button locks the screen entirely, so the sleep/wake won’t be draining the battery in your pocket by asking constantly for a wake confirmation.
  • On the bottom of the iPhone are a mic (on the left side) and a speaker (on the right), not stereo speakers as had been assumed.
  • The phone features are hooked in relationally all over the place to the address book and email. Far deeper than prior demos seemed to indicate.
  • The toolbar at the bottom of the iPod interface is customizable, much like OS X toolbars. You’re able to drag your favorites to the bar.
  • The headset allows you to both control the iPod (pause, fastforward) and answer phone calls.
  • PDFs, Word .docs and Excel .xls files are viewable within the Mail application.
  • Mail and SMS allows swiping gestures (to the right) in list view, allowing quick deletes.
  • The Google Maps application begins with a continent view, not a smart view based on celltower that some had speculated on as a poor-man’s GPS replacement.
  • Traffic reports are integrated into the Maps application.
  • YouTube is integrated with the Mail app. You are springing for the unlimited data plan, right?
  • Airplane mode is available on the iPhone, which turns off all radio transmissions (slick).
  • Tons of familiar and not-so-familiar ringtones are available.
  • Font size settings are available for at least the Mail app
